Past Life Regression
Many of us have had the experience of meeting someone for the first time and instantly feel as if we know them already or immediately fall into a comfortable relationship - just like old friends. Similarly we may visit a different part of our own country or a different part of the world, only to find it somehow seems very familiar. We may have a special affinity for a certain place, a certain culture or a certain time in history. These are often instances of re-encountering people and places we have known in a previous life or life times.
What is Past Life Regression?
Past Life Regression, (also known as “past life therapy,” or “regression therapy”), is based upon the premise that we are eternal beings who carry forward learning and experiences from one lifetime to another. As eternal souls, we experience physical life on Earth in a series of human bodies/personalities. On a soul level, we choose each life as a means of learning and evolving. We unconsciously carry forward experiences, emotions, attitudes and relationship dynamics from previous lives into our current lifetime. Many times this is beneficial, as in cases where we just have a "knack" for something, or seem to master a situation or a new skill or area of study as if we already knew it. Other times traumatic experiences such as a violent death or loss of a loved one are left unresolved, relationships are left unhealed, situations and circumstances may be left not understood. The emotions associated with these events can be carried forward into our current life and have a detrimental affect on it. Trauma and issues from past lives can be triggered by events in our current lifetime without our conscious awareness. We might react to people and situations in ways that seem out of character or counter-productive, or we may find ourself "gridlocked" in a problem that we just can’t seem to resolve no matter what we try. This is because the problems we experience in this life are actually rooted in the dynamics set up in prior personalities/lifetimes.
With Past Life Regression the therapist guides you through significant events of the past life, through the death experience, and then a "life review." The purpose of that lifetime and the lessons learned or indeed not learned are examined from a higher perspective. Issues are traced to where the original activating event occurred to bring the “memories” into conscious awareness. By re-experiencing the key events of a past life and understanding what is most significant about that life in terms of our current personality and situation, we can resolve issues and experiences (from the past) that are keeping us “stuck” or are blocking our progress and happiness now, release or diffuse the emotional blockages, bring closure to the events of that lifetime and find completion.
Some people believe we only live one human lifetime. In this case, the “stories” elicited by this therapeutic approach simply serve as symbolic metaphors for the issues and situations being faced in the present time, therefore being equally effective in resolving current issues.
The regression technique can also be used to access early childhood memories from the current lifetime that may be underlying present-day problems and issues.
